By air: the airport is located in the eastern part of the city and has two terminals: international and domestic. The terminals are about 10kms apart and there is a shuttle bus service which links the two terminals. Several international airlines land at this airport including Malaysian Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific and many others. There are daily domestic flights to Adelaide, Brisbane, Darwin, Melbourne and Sydney.
By train: Perth has two main railway stations: the main interstate station, East Perth Railway Terminal and Perth Railway Station, where local connections are available to the main city station. Train services connect Perth to several cities within Australia including Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.
West Australian Government Railways has services to Kalgoorlie, taking about eight hours and also to Northam, taking about two hours. Both services depart from the East Perth Terminal.
By ferry: Perth’s port can be found in Fremantle which is about 19kms from the city. The port has ample parking facilities, exhibition and function venues, a VIP room and a cafe. Rottnest Express, Oceanic Cruises and other ferry providers have services to Rottnest Island, a sailing of about 25 minutes. There are also scenic ferry tours available and cruise ships also stop at this Port.
By road: Australians drives on the left side of the road and its highways follow a numbering system, although many are commonly known by names. It is required by law that all persons in the car must wear seat belts. Distances are vast in Australia and the outback is very dry and hot. Drivers planning to cross dessert areas are advised to take lots of drinking water with them.
Perth is almost 4000 kilometres away from Sydney, but it is possible to drive as the roads are in excellent condition. Drivers from Adelaide, Sydney or Melbourne usually drive via Kalgoorie using the Great Easter Highway. From Fremantle and Kalgoorie-Boulder it is best to use the Great Eastern Highway 94, the Southwestern Highway 20 from Bunbury, Wanneroo road from Geraldton and the Albany Highway 30 from Albany.
