Melbourne Travel Guide
The gardens and the parks that can be found scattered all around the city give it an airy open feeling, while the Victorian-era buildings, modern skyscrapers, sidewalk cafes, trendy bars, shopping malls and museums give the city its cosmopolitan atmosphere and buzz.
Every year, Melbourne plays host to many internationally acclaimed events as well as local events including film and food festivals, art and cultural events, dance and music performances. The Australian Open, a Grand Slam tennis tournament, world cricket matches and Formula One motor racing are all held in Melbourne annually.
Although the distances in Australia are vast, the roads are excellent and many tourists choose to rent a car. Once in Melbourne, there is an excellent public transportation system including tram, bus, taxi and train services.
Melbourne is a great place to visit anytime of the year depending on what your favourite outdoor activities are. Summers are long and warm and spring and autumn delight with their beauty. The peak tourist times are in the summer months of November and January and it gets especially crowded around Christmas. It is best to book your airline tickets and accommodations in advance if you plan to visit during these months.
