Activities in Launceston
Trevallyn State Recreation Reserve: is located in the hills of West Launceston and by the South Esk River. This 450 hectare multiple-use park caters for many recreational activities, both land and water based. Visitors can enjoy walking in the spectacular gorges, mountain biking, horse riding and archery.
The Trevallyn Dam releases water to create the rafting and kayaking action in the Cataract Gorge. Boating and swimming are popular pastimes on Lake Trevallyn and there are well-kept picnic sites in the area. Also popular is the cable hand gliding facility. It is possible to experience the sensation of soaring over an 18-metre cliff before you reach your landing point 200 metres from the take-off platform.
Tamar Valley Wine Route: is Tasmania's premier wine growing area and home to 21 major vineyards and wineries. Here you'll find the orchard, farms and wineries for which Tasmania is famous. Many of the vineyards are small and family-owned and the growers will greet you and explain just how the wine is made. It's possible to complete the Wine Route in one day, however it's best enjoyed if you allow two to three days so you can and enjoy the many other attractions in the area.
