January Festivals

Roach Race: one of the more unusual festivals in the world is held right here in Australia. Roaches infest much of Australia but they have their purposes too. The roach race is held in Brisbane each year and if you haven’t seen one you have missed out on one of the more bizarre races in the world.
Sydney Festival: began about 30 years ago and has since become internationally renowned for its standards and performances that attract millions each year. The festival showcases music, theatre and dance during its three week span.
Melbourne Gay and Lesbian Midsumma Festival: a wide selection of entertainment awaits those who attend the festival including arts, educational programmes, music and much more. The Pride march is the highlight of the three week event with more than 30,000 partisans.
February Festivals

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras: this is the largest and most well known gay and lesbian festival in the world. With parades, music, arts and lots of entertainment thrown in the event attract thousands each year.
Melbourne International Comedy Festival: spans three weeks and has become a regular and long awaited festival that attracts both local and international talent. In venues all across Melbourne, talented comedians will bring the house down with roaring laughter. It is a great time to be in Melbourne if you enjoy stand up.
The Port Fairy Folk Festival: music lovers will not want to miss this festival that sees the blues, gospel, jazz, Cajun, Celtic, bluegrass, country, folk and world music performances.
National Folk Festival: is held at the Exhibition Park in Canberra. In addition to bringing together musicians who perform folk and world music, there are also performances by dancers and singers, instrument making artists, a children’s festival and lots of stall sending crafts and other interesting items.
August Festivals

Festival of Darwin: was originally intended to celebrate the revival of Darwin after a cyclone destroyed many parts of the city. Today, the festival features performances by musicians and dancers. It is a lively, vibrant festival that is worth catching.
Melbourne Fringe Festival: this month-long festival features films, comedy, theatrical performances, visual arts, music and even cabaret.
October Festivals

Tasting Australia: is a biennial food, beer and wine festival that is held in Adelaide and other regions in South Australia. For nine days, the public gets an opportunity to try food prepared by some of the country’s top chefs and drink wine and beer local to the region. The festival attracts many leading food and wine professionals who use the venue to exchange ideas and promote the latest trends in the culinary world.
November Festivals

Adelaide Lesbian and Gay Cultural Festival: is held over three weeks every year to celebrate various art forms and attracts thousands. It is one of the top three gay and lesbian events held in Australia and sees a number of celebrities topping the guest lists along with performances by world famous musicians and comedians.
