Safety: like most other countries in the world, Australia is not without petty crime that is commonly targeted towards tourists. Pick-pocketing and bag snatching are among the two most common crimes and tourists should take precautions to avoid being targets. Do not wear a lot of jewellery; hold on to all of your bags and belongings at all times and be cautious when removing your wallet to pay for items.
When to go: Australia is a vast country and there is a lot of variation in temperatures and weather conditions. Summer in Australia begins in December and ends in February, autumn from March to May, winter in June to August and spring from September to November. Australian winters are varied depending on where you are. Melbourne can get quite very cold but Perth stays milder.
Language: the official language is English. However, many local Australian slang words are used in daily communication.
