Walking: Cairns boasts a number of walking paths for keen trekkers. To fully enjoy the view of the city, follow the red or blue arrows that are located about a 100 metres from the Botanic Gardens. The Red arrow walk is the shorter of the two walks. Other self guided walking tracks include the Esplanade Walk and the Crystal Cascade Walk.
Bushwalking: is available at many of the national parks, state forests and general wilderness areas. Different categories of walks are available to accommodate people of all ages and fitness levels. The tracks are clearly signposted and well maintained. Bushwalkers will be rewarded with sightings of wildlife including birds, butterflies, small mammals and reptiles, beautiful tropical rainforest, colourful flowering trees and plants, orchids, fig trees, waterfalls and stunning vistas.
Water sport: a variety of water sports are available including diving, deep sea fishing, fishing, para sailing, kayaking, water skiing, surfing and many other water activities.
Course: numerous short and longer courses are available on a number of water sports including surfing, water skiing, diving, swimming and others. Other courses include bush cooking classes, art classes and many others.
Mountain biking: is enjoyed by many locals at the Smithfield Mountain Bike Park. You will find tracks that cater for the different biking abilities. Tracks also include those for racing and for leisure.
Cycling: there are a number of places you can ride a bike in Cairns, including the Esplanade. It is also possible to cycle along the coastal parklands with its wonderful scenery.
Flying leap: is an unusual sport where participants are strapped to enormous wings that have been attached to a tight wire. Participants then throw themselves off a hill and fly like a bird.
Bungee jumping: is an extreme sport that is enjoyed by many and Hackett Bungee Tower will not fail to please. The jump is undertaken from the tropical forest and provided excellent views of the Coral Sea and the mountains.
