Cairns has an excellent tourist infrastructure which includes internet cafes, shopping at stylish malls, fine dining opportunities, exciting nightlife, a variety of accommodation and great sights to see. For outdoor lovers you will a host of outdoor activities to choose from including scuba diving, snorkelling, bushwalking, hiking and mountain biking.
The city itself is a delightful mix of old and new buildings that stand side by side. This odd arrangement fits in perfectly with the unique relaxed atmosphere found in Cairns. It is also the only place in the world that has two Heritage sites situated side by side: the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics Forest. The Daintree forest is more than 100 million years old and a tour through it is a fascinating experience.
It isn’t difficult to get to Cairns as it is home to its own airport with both an international and domestic terminal. Cairns also has a train station and several long distance buses from many cities in Australia arrive at its main bus station. Once in Cairns it is very easy to move around as most things are within walking distance. However, public transport is convenient and economical.
