Port Douglas: is a favourite tourist stop for those who are based in Cairns. It is very close to the Great Barrier Reef and the great Daintree National Park. Visitors can stop at the majestic Four Mile Beach and meander through Macrossan street, enjoy the Sunday markets crammed with stalls selling souvenirs, art and crafts, plants, vegetable and fruit stores and entertainment.
Cape Tribulation: offers a variety of activities including a river cruise where visitors can spot crocodiles and exotic birdlife. The cape has a stunning coastline with clear creeks. Other places to visit include Alexandra Lookout, Daintree Environment Centre, and Marrja Botanical walk and Cape Tribulation boardwalk.
Fitzroy Island: is not very far from Cairns but it is possible to spend the whole day here taking in the beauty and splendour of more than 330 hectares of unspoiled rainforest. Visitors can indulge in scuba diving and snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef or just enjoy relaxing at the stunning white sandy beaches.
Green Island: is less than an hour’s cruise from Cairns and is part of a Marine Park. You will find thick rainforests and beautiful coral reefs as well as the chance to snorkel, scuba dive or ride on a glass-bottom boat.
