January Festivals

Australia Day: celebrated on January 26, this is commonly referred to as a backyard party for Brisbane. It is a day when the Australia’s citizens celebrate their pride in their country. Events include concerts, fireworks, cultural performances, workshops, stalls selling Aussie food, screening of Aussie classic movies and the ever popular square dancing.
January/February Festivals

Chinese New Year: is celebrated according to the lunar calendar but usually falls in January or February. It is celebrated in Fortitude Valley with sky flares and rainbow firework flashes, lion and dragon dances and the banging of drums and cymbals and loud firecrackers to chase away evil spirits.
April Festivals

International Comedy Festival: held in April, this event sees international comedians arrive in Brisbane to perform for eager audiences.
Market Day Festival: is a day filled with music and performances including international acts. Guaranteed to have something for everyone, Market Day also offers food, merchandise and information stalls. The festival is usually held in April each year.
May Festivals

Ipswich Heritage Festival: is a one day celebration held in May to acknowledge the pioneering spirit. The many events held in Harrisville include movies, bush poem readings, costume dressing, traditional games and many other events.
July Festivals

Brisbane's Festival: is a major festival of arts and usually held in the last two weeks of July. Events include a variety of dance, singing and stage performances.
This festival attracts the largest number of people compared to any other festival held in Brisbane and it includes agricultural displays, animal parades, a sideshow alley, fairground rides, equestrian events and wood chopping competitions. Lots of food and souvenir stalls can be found on-site as well.
International Film Festival: this event is held in August and showcases several genres of films including short movies, documentaries, feature films and others from all across the world. There is also a very popular family fun day. The festival is much loved and eagerly awaited each year.
