Ayers Rock: the seven mile Ayers Rock base walk takes you all the way around the Rock and is the best way of seeing it from the ground level. There are numerous Aboriginal paintings and caves, along with descriptive signs with good explanations. The walk can be completed in three or four hours and is best started early in the morning before the sun gets too hot.
Although it is discouraged by the local Aboriginal community, many people still choose to climb Ayers Rock. Those that attempt it will be rewarded with some stunning views of The Olgas and surrounding area. Make sure that you have comfortable footwear and take lots of water. A chain has been fixed to help visitors on the steepest section. You need to set off early and aim to be down by 09:00 during the summer months. Note that the trail is closed at 08:00 if the temperature is due to reach 36 degrees.
