The capital of the Outback and a city boasting plenty of adventures, Alice Springs offers tourists many opportunities to observe its unique area and interesting culture. There are countless historic buildings, mountain ranges, parks and museums that are all well worth a visit.
Adelaide House: was the first Alice Springs Hospital. This beautiful old building designed and built by John Flynn boasts a unique air-con system with a combination of air tunnels and wet Hessian. It was also where John Flynn made the first field radio telegram transmission in Australia in 1926.
Alice Springs Desert Park: depicts the stories of the country’s deserts, plants, animals, landscapes and people. There are interesting interactive displays that take you on a journey through Australia’s deserts. You can walk through three impressive desert displays and learn more about how Aboriginal people put native desert plants and animals into use.
Anzac Hill: is a great place to witness stunning sights of the eastern area and Western MacDonnell Ranges. The hill is a memorial dedicated to the Australian and New Zealand soldiers who lost their lives in war.
Olive Pink Botanic Garden: boasts many native plants from central Australia. From here, you can take a walk up Annie Myer Hill to observe scenic views of the MacDonnell Ranges and Alice Springs.
Museum of Central Australia: reveals many distinctive exhibits featuring the evolution of the Central Australian environment and its nuances. Remarkable displays include a replica of a local paleontological dig and an ancient waterhole with extinct animals such as a Dromornis Stirtoni, the largest bird that has ever lived and has been extinct for over eight million years. The museum also features many fascinating mammal, reptile and fossil displays which are sure to delight children.
