Introduction to Woodend, Australia
Halfway between Bendigo and Melbourne, in the Shire of Macedon Ranges region of Victoria State, is the little town of Woodend. With 3,000 inhabitants and accessible via the Calder Freeway, it features a wide central main street that is commonly used for festival parades and other events. Set in the foothills of the Great Dividing Ranges, the town occasionally receives snowfall, offering visitors a break from the more usual steaming hot Australian climate. Natural attractions nearby include Mount Macedon, Hanging Rock and Wombat State Forest. Woodend is famous for its arts, crafts and antiques, with many shops and galleries lining its main street along with Woodend hotels. Weekend markets here also offer craftworks, art and antiques, and are great places for people-watching. The area has many vineyards, with local wineries happy to show visitors around. Golfers as well as eco-tourists are well provided for, with a cliff-top golf course and Macedon Regional Park within easy reach. other spellings: woodendhotels, voodend hotell, wodend hote vic, wootend otel, woodent hotle vic
