One of Tasmania's primary tourist destinations for its location on the estuary of the Leven River, just 20kms from Devonport and 125kms from Launceston, Ulverstone lies along the island's northern coast. Surrounded by an agricultural landscape supporting beef and daily cattle and potato farms, the town has several interesting Victorian heritage buildings including the ANZ Bank, Furners Hotel and the lovely Westalla, Lonah and Ocean View gabled houses, beautiful traditional timber-constructed homes built between 1880 and 1920. Riverside Anzac Park has a modern 'Spaceage' children's playground and pretty picnic spots, and the local history museum features the business facades of various traditional stores.
