The sizeable town of Tuncurry is twinned with its immediate neighbour, Forster, nestling between the shoreline of the Pacific Ocean and the lovely Wallis Lake in New South Wales, just a four-hour drive from Sydney. It's a popular summer destination for holidaymakers from the big city for its Nine Mile Beach and Rockpool, a shark-netted swimming area. Fishing boats and leisure craft moor at jetties and wharves on the lakefront areas of the town, and Tuncurry hotels offer a friendly welcome to travellers. The main attractions here are the beaches, with their water sports including scuba-diving and outdoor activities such as walking and eco-tours, fishing, sailing, horseback riding, dolphin-watching, birding and four-wheel drive tours. Cape Hawke, just outside town, sits at the northernmost point of Booti Booti National Park, with spectacular views from its summit across the region.
