Introduction to Traralgon, Australia
A city within a city, Traralgon is set in the Latrobe Valley, within the larger conurbation of Latrobe City. Originally the heart of a massive agricultural plain known for its dairy farms, this Gippsland city in Victoria was at one time a gold rush town but is famous nowadays for its vineyards and as the region's entertainment hub. Traralgon hotels, pubs, nightclubs and restaurants all thrive here, with a regular influx of visitors keen to explore the town's Victorian heritage and nearby Tarra Bulga National Park. Ostler House, Ryan's Hotel and the old Traralgon Post Office are three of the most impressive 19th century structures in town, with pretty Victoria Park holding marble sculptures and a traditional bandstand. Across the creek is Newman Park, a fun adventure playground featuring a miniature train and other rides. The national park's rainforests are a haven for diverse species of flora and fauna, with stands of giant Mountain Ash trees and a plethora of fern species. Mountain biking and white water rafting are easily arranged.
