Introduction to Townsville - South Townsville
The Queensland city of Townsville is considered the unofficial capital of the state's northern part, and its busy port is situated in a suburb called Townsville South. Despite its name, however, the suburb is actually not located south of the city butinstead immediately east of Townsville's central business district. Most Townsville South hotels, restaurants and nightclubs are located on Palmer Street, but South Townsville itself is primarily a residential neighbourhood. The half-a-dozen parks within the district are: Victoria Park, Foley Park, Cameron Park, Dean Park, Neville George Maritime Park and Central Park, which also contains the Remote Area Dive diving school. Most other attractions are situated close to the port, Queensland's third-largest port. Both the Entertainment and Convention Centre and the Maritime Museum are within walking distance of the port. The Maritime Museum contains a large exhibit about the SS Yongala which sank in a nearby area in 1911 as well as a barbecue area and a model boat building room.other spellings: townsville southhotels, townsvile south otel, townville south hotell, townvile soth au
