Introduction to Townsville - City Centre
Townsville is the unofficial capital of North Queensland, Australia. It sits about three quarters of the way along Queensland's coast, overlooking the central region of the Great Barrier Reef. More than 180,000 people live within the city, and most of the commercial and financial sections are found in the centre. Today, the constant growth of the city centre has led to year-round developments throughout the central business district. Townsville City Centre hotels are slowly growing also, with many now located next to major attractions such as Reef HQ Aquarium. Flinders Mall is the main site for tourists as it contains many retail stores, restaurants, and nightclubs. For those guests who enjoy a bit of culture, the Perc Tucker Regional Art Gallery is found at the end of Flinders Mall. Getting around the city centre can be done on foot, but taxis and buses are also available.
