Introduction to Sydney - Windsor
The Australian township of Windsor is located in the far northwest of Sydney, on the banks of the Hawkesbury River. Named after the royal city in the UK, it is around 37 miles from the centre of Sydney and is easily accessible by train on Cityrail's Richmond Line. The Hawkesbury Museum is a good place to start any exploration of the town. The museum is free to enter and here visitors can learn more about the heritage of the state district. They can also learn more about the area's other attractions at the Tourist Centre, located at the same Thompson Square premises. Other historic buildings in the town include the Tebbuts Observatory and St Matthew's Church. Visiting these buildings allows guests to see some of the oldest European architecture which survives in Australia to this day. It's possible to visit the town on a daytrip from Sydney but there are a few Windsor hotels for those who would like to spend a little longer in this historic town.Visit our Sydney Travel Guide
