Introduction to Sydney - The Rocks
Even though The Rocks is a magnificent and comfortable residential area that contains a population of more than 600 people, it is still primarily regarded as a tourist destination. It is situated on the shores of Sydney Harbour, just a few hundred metres to the northwest of Sydney's central business district. It is also situated adjacent to Circular Quay. Most of the buildings found in the suburb were built in the late 1700s from sandstone found in the area. The historical buildings found here make it a spectacular tourist destination. Some of The Rocks hotels are located within these historic buildings, although in most cases, the accommodation is modern, with only an old-style facade. There are two famous pubs in the district which are said to be the oldest in Sydney. Other main attractions at The Rocks include Cadman's Cottage, the Sydney Observatory, the Arts Exchange Building and the weekend markets. The area is very accessible from Circular Quay.Visit our Sydney Travel Guide
