Introduction to Sydney - Darlinghurst
With its central location east of the central business district, Darlinghurst is a well-positioned suburb of Australia's largest city that has transformed itself from a run-down area to an upmarket cultural centre well-known for its clubs and bars. There are two fine museums here: the Australian Natural History Museum as well as the Sydney Jewish Museum, both of which are well worth a visit. For eats, head to Victoria Street with its excellent array of restaurants and cafes or Little Italy for pizza, and for Darlinghurst hotels, the best area to head for is around Oxford Street, close to Hyde Park, where there is everything from hostels to five-star luxury, depending on your budget and taste. This is also the main commercial area of Darlinghurst, where there is excellent shopping to be had in and around Oxford Square, which is also the name of a small shopping centre. Gay visitors can make a beeline for Taylor Square, the epicenter of the city's gay scene. Visit our Sydney Travel Guide
