Introduction to Sydney - Coogee
Coogee is a seaside suburb in the east of Sydney, Australia. Popular with visiting backpackers, the suburb retains a family atmosphere, with many younger Sydney residents settling down here. Coogee Beach is the main attraction; only Bondi Beach is considered to be more popular in this part of the city. However, the waves here are not suitable for surfing, so even novice surfers are advised to look elsewhere. The beach, protected from rough seas by a reef known as Wedding Cake Island, is very safe for swimming. Visitors with young children should head to the southern end of the beach, where an ocean pool offers the safest swimming. Walkers can take the cliff-top path as far as Bondi, passing some other city beaches. The walk is around two and a half miles long and shouldn't take more than two hours. There are a few Coogee hotels to choose from, offering easy access to a range of food and drink outlets. Those staying at the northern end can find some decent cafes on Beach Road, while those staying at the southern end might find eating out here expensive. Visit our Sydney Travel Guide
