Introduction to Sydney - Brighton le Sands
Brighton le Sands, known locally as Brighton Beach or just Brighton, lies on the western shores of historic Botany Bay, the landing place and site of the infamous penal colony which began the continent's transformation to modern-day Australia. Classified as a suburb of the giant city of Sydney, it's set 13kms from the central business district and holds beaches, a promenade and a mix of low, medium and high-density developments, cafes, restaurants, retail centres and Brighton le Sands hotels. With its wide streets and pleasant tree-lined Grand Parade, it's an attractive location. The suburb is known for its Greek eateries, earning it the nickname 'Little Greece', and has enough Victorian landmarks to give it a historic air. Street performances enliven the evening scene along the boardwalk and several pretty parks run to the beachside areas, with cycling and walking trails joining with the Sydney Coastal Walk along the magnificent bay.
