Introduction to Stawell, Australia

Stawell is a town in Victoria's Wimmera region, around 147 miles from Victoria's capital, Melbourne. Most travellers get here by driving from Melbourne, a journey which takes around 2 hours, 30 minutes. However, The Overland train service between Adelaide and Melbourne now stops in the town after an absence of many years. The town's accommodation is mostly used by visitors heading to Grampians National Park. However, there are one or two places which might interest guests who are passing through. Each Easter, Central Park hosts the Stawell Gift, a professional running race which takes place on a 120-metre uphill slope. It is the oldest race of its kind, meaning that Stawell hotels could be busier than usual at this time. At other times, there are regular horseracing meets at the racetrack, around a mile to the southwest of the town centre. History enthusiasts will enjoy the local history museum, located in the town's 19th century courthouse, while families might like to visit Casper's Miniature World. This theme park features a range miniature models which are based on different cultures from around the world.
