Surrounded by the most fertile soil on Tasmania, Scottsdale is located on the Tasman Highway, in the northeast of Australia's largest island. At 53kms from Launceston and 22kms from the coastal town of Bridport, the town is the agricultural and commercial hub of the region. Set in a valley ringed by mountains, the community offers two key visitor attractions, the Lavender Farm and the Barnbougle Dunes Golf Links, with the Forest EcoCentre in town an educational facility informing visitors on the region's forestry industry. Scottsdale hotels are located in the town centre, close to the shopping centre around King Street and Victoria Street, with Ellesmere district the oldest part of town and set on the northern outskirts. The Trail of the Tin Dragon, a tourist trail around the region's areas of natural beauty and the sites of its mining history, begins in the town.
