Introduction to Robe, Australia
Robe is one of the most historic places on South Australia's Limestone Coast. The town was once Australia's third-biggest port, but is now considered unsuitable for larger boats. Nowadays, visitors enjoy the town's mild climate and beautiful beaches. Further inland, the town hosts some historical buildings, as well as dense bush. Some of the town's more modern constructions are also worth a visit. Travellers can see the town's lighthouse, built in 1972. Guests staying at hotels in Robe can also enjoy some excellent fishing opportunities when joining the local fishermen looking for their daily catch. The town remains somewhat remote, as the Australian rail network never reached here. However, it's easy to get here by road from the Adelaide and Melbourne direction; the town is a short distance from the Princes Highway. It takes around 3 hours, 30 minutes to get here from Adelaide and around twice as long from Melbourne. Buses depart from Adelaide daily, operated by Premier Stateliner.
