Red Hill is a small community located in Mornington Peninsula's hinterland, in the Australian state of Victoria. Its name derived from the red clay which the area is known for. The town has a population in the region of 1,500 inhabitants and it is situated approximately 75kms south of Melbourne. Among the highlights of this small, rural community is the Red Hill Community Market, held between September and May on the first Saturday of the month. Here, traditional local foods are sold, while there is also the chance to watch old time games such as petangue. Every March is the Red Hill Agricultural Show, while in April there is the popular Climate Wine Show. Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy the walking trail which stretches from the town to Merricks and offers pretty scenery through farmland and forest and past wineries. There are not many Red Hill hotels to choose from, although those which are available provide first-class amenities.
