Introduction to Port Pirie, Australia
Port Pirie is a city of more than 13,000 people on South Australia's Spencer Gulf. Travellers can get here on the A1 from Adelaide (140 miles) or by joining a Premier Stateliner coach from the same city. The famous Ghan and Indian Pacific train services stop here once or twice a week. Much of the city's industry is based on its port, so there are few major tourist attractions. There are some Port Pirie hotels, which can get crowded in September and October when the city's country music festival takes place. With regards to recreation, Solomontown Beach is a decent swimming area with showers and changing rooms on hand. The tide here is sometimes strong so weak swimmers should take care. City accommodation offers easy access to Port Pirie's main parks, such as Memorial Park and Phoenix Park. Phoenix Park's racecourse hosts regular greyhound race meetings. To the south of Phoenix Park, guests can find the city's largest shopping centre, Pirie Plaza, on Grey Terrace. Visitors can learn about the city's history at the National Trust Historic and Folk Museum, housed in a former train station.other spellings: port pirie otel, port pirei hotell, port piri hote, port piriehotels, port pirie hotle
