Introduction to Port Lincoln, Australia
Best-known for its mild climate and working marina, Port Lincoln is a small town of around 15,000 people. At an eight-hour drive from Adelaide, many visitors choose to fly here on one of the daily flights from the South Australian capital, courtesy of Qantaslink and Rex Regional Express. Trawlers and freight ships crowd the marina, but safe swimming is possible in the foreshore area. There is a park next to the enclosed swimming area, hosting shower and changing facilities, while the main shopping district, Tasman Terrace, can be found just behind the park. Port Lincoln offers great opportunities to get close to the local sea life, with the town's travel agencies offering cage-diving experiences with great white sharks, tuna-farm tours and swimming with Australian sea lions. Guests staying at Port Lincoln hotels also have the chance to visit other destinations in the Eyre Peninsula region. Lincoln National Park, offering fabulous views of Donnington Island and an opportunity to climb Stamford Hill, is 15kms south of the town centre.
