Introduction to Port Douglas - Four Mile Beach
Each year between the months of May and September, the population of Port Douglas, Australia nearly doubles. This beachfront community is situated about 70kms north of Cairns in Far North Queensland. Although Port Douglas has long been a popular holiday destination for Australians during their winter season, the community remains a tranquil place where the buildings are just slightly taller than the palm trees. Port Douglas may not be far from Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef, but its most popular attraction remains the much closer Four Mile Beach. Port Douglas is famous for its large amount of five-star luxury Four Mile Beach hotels, but budget accommodation is equally easy to find. The beach is named after its length, which equals nearly six and a half kilometres, and its southern end is an especially popular kite-surfing spot. The rocky northern end of the beach, on the other hand, is an ideal place for children to play.
