Introduction to Perth - Scarborough
Scarborough Beach may be the most famous attraction in this Perth, Australia suburb situated halfway between Fremantle and the downtown area of Western Australia's state capital. However, this diverse suburb also has much to offer beyond its well-known beach, which I easily accessible from most Scarborough hotels. Each year, Australia's National Surf Life Saving competition takes place at the beach, whose surfing ranks among the world's best. The beach was named after a United Kingdom seaside resort also called Scarborough, and the suburb is filled with British expatriates attracted by its sea, sun and relaxed atmosphere. Attractions beyond the beach include: an open-air amphitheatre with unforgettable Indian Ocean views; the Herdsman Lake wetland sanctuary, which is especially popular among bird watchers; and the Scarborough-Trigg Heritage Trail, which opened to the public when Australia celebrated its 100th birthday during the year 2001.
