Introduction to Perth - Burswood
The tiny Perth suburb of Burswood and its 1,300 residents are set in a pretty location on the banks of the Swan River, opposite the city's commercial and business district and Claisebrook. Burswood Park is the green and pleasant heart of this small community, with its few Burswood hotels. The suburb's twin claims to fame are the newly-built Burswood Island Resort and casino, and the historic Burswood Racecourse. The island resort is a fascinating example of modern architecture, resembling a giant ocean liner with its stepped levels and containing a convention centre, no less than seven restaurants, a casino, two nightclubs and a theatre as well as two hotels, a golf course and other sports amenities including the Burswood Dome. Set right on the river, it's a spectacular sight from the opposite bank and its rail station gives easy access to the centre of Perth. The dome has been the scene of many pop concerts.
