A mixed-use suburb of Western Australia's state capital, Perth, Belmont is part commercial and industrial, and part dormitory town for the nearby city, just seven kilometres away. Belmont hotels, motels and other accommodation are set along its northwestern boundaries, marked by the Great Eastern Highway. The residential area includes a pretty 500m stretch of the Swan River's southern bank. Close by are two national parks, the John Forest and the Katamunda, set in the hilly regions to the east, with Fremantle city to the south for history, fine food and entertainment. Belmont acts as a convenient base for visitors passing through Perth International Airport, just to the east. But its scenic setting near the river makes it a worthwhile destination in its own right.
