Introduction to Parkes, Australia
Parkes is a town of nearly 10,000 people in New South Wales, Australia. The town has historical significance in the fact that Henry Parkes was born here. He was a leading figure in the formation of modern Australia and as such, the city was named after him in 1873. A number of reminders about this historical figure can be spotted around the town, including a statue and a museum. However, there are few other headline attractions in the town centre. Guests staying at hotels in Parkes have the opportunity to visit the CSIRO Telescope, 12 miles away, however, as well as Goobang National Park. Travellers can get to the town by taking the Indian Pacific railway service from Sydney or Perth. In addition, travellers can also use the Broken Hill Outback Xplorer train service, which connects Sydney and Broken Hill. The most interesting time to visit the town is in January, when the annual Elvis Festival takes place. This event is held on Elvis Presley's birthday, 8 January.
