Introduction to Normanton, Australia
First established during the 19th century gold rush, Normanton is now a popular resting place among travellers touring Queensland's Gulf Country. Travellers can get here by making the 700km journey from Cairns on the Savannah Way (Highway 1). Much of the town's economy is based on prawn fishing but the biggest crocodile ever captured is commemorated with a statue known as KRYS. The historic train station is worth a look before taking a trip on the Gulflander train to Croydon. This town is located 155kms from Normanton and is a historic mining centre. Organised train excursions take around three hours and can include special themes. The town is situated on the banks of the Norman River, where guests staying at Normanton hotels can join fishing trips and river cruises. The old bridge is well-lit and a good spot for night fishing. The waters in the area host an abundance of barramundi and king salmon.other spellings: normantonhotels au, mormanton hote queensland, otelin normantno au, normanotn au
