You could travel the world and it would be tough to find a stranger little town than Nimbin in New South Wales, Australia. With a population of just over 350, this tiny settlement is known as 'the drug capital of Australia' and 'Little Amsterdam' among other nicknames. The uniqueness of the town is down to its tolerance of the cultivation, possession and selling of cannabis - illegal in most of the rest of Australia. The town was a haven for hippies during the 1970s and has grown to become an extremely popular tourist destination, particularly for those staying in nearby Byron Bay. Daily tours head to this somewhat special town, and among the highlights here are the Nimbin Museum, which has a variety of local art, artefacts and alternative culture - it is also somewhere which can offer guests a cake with a twist.
