Introduction to Muswellbrook, Australia
Best-known for its horse-breeding and mining industry, Muswellbrook has little to detain visitors for long. However, it is a convenient stopping-off point on the New England Highway between Newcastle and Toowoomba, offering easy access to other destinations in the Hunter Valley. The town's wide streets, surrounded by the sweeping New South Wales countryside and its famous wineries, have been well-planned. It is a particularly green town, with several parks scattered across it, especially to the south of Muswellbrook Golf Course. Muswellbrook hotels tend to be located on the outskirts, but commercial activity is centred on areas near the junction of Market Street and the New England Highway. Here, the Regional Arts Centre hosts regular performances and exhibitions. The Marketplace is the biggest retail outlet on the New England Highway, while other retailers include a post office, a car rental depot and several restaurants.
