Introduction to Moss Vale, Australia
Moss Vale was first established as a New South Wales railway town in 1867 and its regal rail station remains its dominating landmark to this day. However, the rail station is just one of many late 19th century buildings which still stand in this Southern Highlands town today. The relaxing Leighton Gardens stand in the middle of the town’s Main Street, while the 1845 Christ Church Bong Bong received its unusual name from the original Southern Highlands settlement abandoned during the 1830s. The original 1891 Town Hall is currently a private residence. The quiet village park is near several restaurants, antique shops, tennis courts and golfing opportunities. A popular walking and cycling path in this town nicknamed Mossy lets visitors follow the path of the Wingecarribee River. Barbeques, model train rides and a jumping castle are all part of the monthly charity market held on the final Saturday of every month. The few Moss Vale hotels that are available all offer live entertainment.
