Introduction to Melbourne - Williamstown
Williamstown, known locally as Willy, is a city in the state of Victoria, around six miles from Melbourne. Given the proximity to Melbourne, the city is often considered to be a suburb of its larger neighbour. Most travellers get here by train, with regular departures to the three city stations from Melbourne's Flinders Street. Alternatively, those looking for a more scenic journey can take a ferry, or river cruise, from Southbank in Melbourne. On arrival, travellers are unlikely to need a car as most of the city can be covered on foot or by bicycle. In addition, visitors who would like to spend more time here can choose from a number of Williamstown hotels. Some of the best ones can be found near the Town Hall, with several offering complimentary bike hire to guests. The paths which run along the city's waterfront are the best places to explore by bicycle. Here, upmarket restaurants offer excellent seafood, while the nearby harbour offers the opportunity to see yachts visiting this scenic city.Visit our Melbourne Travel Guide
