Introduction to Melbourne - Caroline Springs
A modern development dating from 1999, the urban-rural suburb of Caroline Springs and its manmade Caroline Lake are set on greenfield land at the edge of the vast conurbation of Melbourne, in Victoria State. Proving popular with commuters to the big city, the suburb is continuing to expand, with an estimation of more than 25,000 residents by 2015. A new development along the lakeshore includes an entertainment centre and several Caroline Springs hotels. The mini-eco system of Kororoit Creek runs through the district, with its indigenous species including tiger snakes, turtles and kangaroos. The creation of wetlands around the lake has resulted in a vast increase in the varied species of the local frog population. Access to Melbourne city centre is straightforward via the Caroline Springs Highway, which links with the Western Ring Road around the city. With Melbourne proper just 30kms to the southeast, it is easy for visitors to the area to see the city sights without having to stay in the midst of the hustle and bustle.
