Introduction to Mackay - City Centre
The tropical Queensland city of Mackay lies on the eastern coast of the state, and was one of the cities worst affected by the devastating floods at the beginning of 2011. Cars were swept away, residents were marooned and over 2,000 homes were inundated when two months'-worth of rain fell in two hours, accompanied by high winds. The cleanup of this popular tourist destination was estimated to cost millions of dollars, with lost tourism jobs and revenue exacerbating the disaster. Mackay City Centre hotels opened as soon as possible after the disaster, but six months later workshops were still being held to reinvigorate tourism to the area. Boat trips to the Great Barrier Reef, the Whitsunday Islands and car trips to beautiful Eungella National park are favourites for visitors based in the resort town. Mackay's beaches are also great for surfing, fishing, swimming, kayaking, sunbathing and other water sports. other spellings: mac kay city otel, mackay hotell center, mackayhotels city, mackey hote center
