Introduction to Lorne - City Centre

Lorne is a seaside town in Australia's Great Ocean Road region. In fact, travellers can get here by taking the Great Ocean Road from Melbourne. This drive is well-known as one of the most scenic in the world and shouldn't take more than two hours. Lorne was once a peaceful town, but recent development has meant that its beaches now get particularly crowded each summer. New Year's Eve is the busiest time, when the town's population increases to around 13,000. The best views of Loutit Bay and other surrounding areas are from Teddy's Lookout. It can be reached from George Street on the edge of the town centre. Beach activities include bathing, surfing and fishing from the town's pier. Guests staying at Lorne City Centre hotels also have the opportunity to visit some of the region's most upmarket restaurants. International food is widely available, including Greek and Arab cuisine. Like many towns in the region, fish and chips is a local speciality here, too.
