One of the main gateways to a series of scenic areas in southern Queensland, Landsborough is a quaint old mining town that can be reached in just an hour by car by heading north from Brisbane. The Glasshouse Mountains lie just a few miles south, offering some spectacular walks amid a unique landscape composed of volcanic plugs. Ambitious hikers can take the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk through the Blackall Ranges, just 30 minutes away, which takes about five days and covers about 35 miles through undulating terrain and past stunning vistas. There is a ginger factory in Landsborough with a train offering rides through the rainforest. Along with the nearby zoo, these are major attractions for children. Lansborough Museum traces the history of settlers in the area, with a number of 19th century artefacts on display. The majority of Lansborough hotels are situated about half a mile south of the train station on Steve Irwin Highway.
