Kings Canyon is one of the most popular attractions in Australia's Red Centre, situated in Watarrka National Park. It is located around 186 miles from the nearest airport, in Alice Springs, where travellers can book tours to the park. It is just about possible to visit the canyon on a daytrip from Alice Springs. However, it is much better to join one of the two or three-day trips, some of which stay at Kings Canyon hotels. These trips often take in some of the Red Centre's other star attractions, such as Uluru (Ayers Rock). Most visitors to Kings Canyon complete the Rim Walk, which takes around four hours. In the hottest months, this walk should only be completed in the early morning, with walkers advised to drink plenty of water en route. The walk offers the chance to see the canyon in all its glory, allowing visitors to get close to the cliffs' edges. Visitors can even book a helicopter trip over the canyon. In the evenings, most visitors eat and drink at their hotel as there is little else in the way of amenities. However, there is a convenience store at the nearby petrol station.
