A tiny town within the Scenic Rim mountain ranges, Kalbar lies in picturesque South East Queensland, close to the state border with New South Wales. The town of little more than 600 inhabitants makes an ideal starting point for walks in the area, the nearest of which is at Mount French, two miles to the south. This walk offers great views of the town along with recreation areas for picnics and barbeques. This is also a popular spot for rock climbers at famous Frog Buttress, a cliff face that leads to the summit and which is considered excellent for climbing. Kalbar lies within the Fassifern Valley, which produces excellent local vegetables - served up at the local cafes and restaurants - plus it’s another excellent area for walking. Much of the area is flat with superb views of surrounding peaks. Kalbar hotels are scarce but there is a small selection of motel and bed and breakfast-style accommodation in the centre of town.
