Introduction to Inverell, Australia

A mid-sized historic town in the north of New South Wales, Inverell is an attractive destination on a bend in the Macintyre River. Walking here is idyllic, given the large area of parkland that straddles the river. There is also a racecourse and show grounds to the south of the centre which feature regular equestrian events. Some of the buildings here offer a well-preserved glimpse into Australia’s recent colonial past. The main courthouse is a striking building in pink and cream, dating back to 1886, with a clock tower that can be seen from most parts of the town. Uniting Church is another heritage hotspot in a Gothic style that looks and feels a great deal older than the vast majority of ecclesiastical buildings in the country. Inverell hotels are mostly centred on the main Otho Street, overlooking the Macintyre River and scenic Lions Park, located across the water, and Victoria Park, to the northeast.
