Introduction to Howlong, Australia
Famously mentioned in a song by the Australian band Spiderbait, Howlong is an outback town just inside New South Wales, on the border with Victoria. The town is a junction on the mighty Murray River and was first settled nearly 200 years ago, lying almost equidistant between the capital Canberra and Melbourne. It’s a great place for walking given the superb river trails here and the scenic Chiltern Box-Ironbark National Park, about eight miles south. Rutherglen, which is even closer, is a major wine-producing town in the area and where connoisseurs can go to taste the local tipple. Access to the town is straightforward from Albury-Wodonga, which is just 20 minutes by car to the east and where there is an airport with regular connections to major cities such as Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra. There is a surprisingly large selection of Howlong hotels, most of which are well placed beside the Riverina Highway junction and the local golf course.other spellings: howlonghotels, hawlong hotell, howlomg otel, howloong hote, how long hotle
