An attractive service town featuring an iconic, decommissioned submarine, Holbrook is a charming stopover between the larger towns of Wagga Wagga and Albury. The submarine is undoubtedly the most unusual highway stop in all of Australia, serving as a preferred barbeque venue for locals or a quirky spot for a drink. There are a number of craft shops close to where the Hume River intersects the town. Holbrook is an ideal base for exploring Woomargama National Park and Mount Lawson State Park, both of which offer scenic walking alongside the Murray River, Australia’s longest. Other picturesque protected areas including Carabost State Forest, Mount Granya State Park and Mundaroo State Forest are less than one hour by car from here, a sign of the superb outdoor scenery on display in this region.
