Groote Eylandt is the biggest island in the Gulf of Carpentaria, located in Australia's Northern Territory.
It lies roughly 50kms east of the mainland and has a population of just over 1,500 inhabitants.

There is a small airport on the west of the island which provides flights to Darwin, Cairns and Bathurst Island.
