Introduction to Goondiwindi, Australia
Located right in the south of Queensland, close to the state border with New South Wales, Goondiwindi is a lively town famous for its horse racing. The best-known statue in the town is in memory of Gunsynd, known as the Goondiwindi Grey, a famous thoroughbred that did well in a host of famous races during the late 1960s and early '70s. Today, there is a racecourse here that still holds events. The Natural Heritage and Water Park is the main tourist attraction here with its man-made lake used for waterskiing, canoeing and boating. Just a few miles away, another lake, Boobera Lagoon, is considered a sacred aboriginal site where water sports are banned but walking and wildlife spotting are popular activities. There is also a golf club right in the centre of town.
