Introduction to Frankston, Australia

Franston is a city of almost 120,000 people just 40kms south of the centre of Melbourne, in the state of Victoria. It is situated at the northern end of Mornington Peninsula, with many referring to it as the gateway to the peninsula. The city boasts a large shopping district, while among the most popular attractions is Frankston Arts Centre, which in addition to an excellent gallery features an 800-seat theatre that plays host to many major performances, including those by the Victorian Opera and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Another highlight is the McClelland Gallery and Sculpture Park, which is set amid 16 hectares of landscaped gardens and bush, and features changing exhibitions and a unique sculpture park which shows more than 80 works by well-known artists. Frankston hotels are located throughout the town, with many dotted along the main seafront road which looks onto Port Phillip Bay. Here, visitor can take a walk on the foreshore boardwalk, passing the picturesque pier and Landmark Bridge, and then enjoy a nice meal at one of the many beachfront restaurants.
